Welcome to the St John’s Wood Society! We would love you to join us in our endeavour to care for the beauty, architecture, history and character of St John’s Wood.
Our work primarily focuses on planning and the built and natural environment. To support this work, we also aim to encourage local residents and businesses to take an interest in the history and culture of the area, promoting a real sense of community.
As Westminster City Council’s designated amenity society for St John’s Wood, we are consulted on planning and licensing matters. These cover anything from back gardens and extensions, right up to major planning proposals at locations such as Lord’s Cricket Ground or the former St John’s Wood Barracks. This helps ensure that development considers local concerns and is in keeping with the high standards of architecture and the beauty of the conservation area that is St John’s Wood.
Another aspect of the Society's work is to stimulate public interest in and care for all aspects of community life in St John's Wood. Events for members have included those of historical interest, such as history and tree walks, business networking, a family Easter Egg Hunt, Jubilee celebrations, painting classes, wine-tasting evenings and occasional drinks parties. More recently, a High Street Festival brought our neighbours and local businesses together to showcase the improvements made to the local environment by the sensitive redevelopment of St John’s Wood High Street.
Further, to keep the community informed, we have an active social media presence and our high-quality, twice-yearly magazine, from the Wood.
We hope you consider joining us to support our efforts, and look forward to seeing you around the ‘Wood’ or at a future Society event!
